Mittagong Anglican Church (St. Stephen’s) is a Bible-believing church in Mittagong, NSW.
We belong to the Evangelical Reformed Anglican Diocese of Sydney. We meet mainly at our main site, on Mittagong’s main street, but we also run Bible study groups in various houses throughout the Highlands, and run a Cubby Club playgroup at our second site at Colo Vale.
As a church, we aim to Know Christ, Grow in Christ, Connect with Christ, Serve Christ and Share Christ.

We’d love to see you at one of our Sunday Services, or weekly activities for Children, Youth and Adults!

The Gospel – Two Ways To Live

God is the loving ruler of our world. He made the world. He made us rulers of the world under him.

We all reject the ruler – God – by trying to run life our own way without him. But we fail to rule ourselves or society or the world.

God won’t let us rebel forever. God’s punishment for rebellion is death and judgement.

Because of his love, God sent his Son into the world: the man Jesus Christ. Jesus always lived under God’s rule. Yet by dying in our place he took our punishment and brought forgiveness.

God raised Jesus to life again as the ruler of the world. Jesus has conquered death, now gives life, and will return to judge.

So we’re faced with two ways to live:

– Our way: reject the ruler – God – and try to run life our own way. The result is being condemned by God, and facing death and judgement.

– God’s new way: submit to Jesus as our ruler and rely on Jesus’ death and resurrection. The result is we’re forgiven by God and given eternal life.

Church is a group of people who have chosen God’s new way to meet together and encourage each other in their relationship with God as they read his word, the bible, together. It’s also a place for the inquiring, the skeptical and the unsure to find more about this God, in three persons, loves us more than we could ever deserve.

Vision Statement

We are ALIVE WITH CHRIST in our homes and the Highlands, in all our gatherings and as we take the gospel to the world, so God’s grace is made known and his kingdom is grown.

Prayer – Heavenly Father, great is your love and rich is your mercy, you have made us alive with Christ, when we were dead in sin. Help us to be passionately alive with Christ in our homes and the highlands, in all our gatherings and about taking the gospel to the world, so the immeasurable riches of your grace to us in Christ is made known.

What we believe

What we believe as a church is summarised succinctly in the Apostle’s creed:

We believe in God, the Father almighty,Creator of heaven and earth,

We believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy apostolic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.

Why ‘St. Stephen’s’?

Our main centre is named St. Stephen’s after a man who the Bible tells us was “a man full of God’s grace and power”, who preached Jesus’ death and resurrection so boldly that he was killed for his faith. Like Stephen, we aim to live for Jesus in everything, and never be ashamed to proclaim his name. For more information on Stephen, read Acts 6 and 7
